FOURTH

CURRICULUM

A Beka Curriculum and supplemented with literature: The Great Hornspoon, Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Iron Dragon Never Sleeps, and Number the Stars. Students are required to participate in Accelerated Reader.

Sadlier Oxford Curriculum- emphasis on multiplication of multiple numbers, long division, polygons, and adding/subtracting fractions.

Houghton-Mifflin Publishers- The study of ecosystems, rocks and minerals, electricity and magnetism. This study is through the use of experiments, using the scientific method. Films and manipulatives are used.

Positive Action for Christ Publishers- Study of Creation and the Old and New Testaments. Selected Bible memory verses (NIV) and the Children’s Shorter Catechism Questions (focus on 10 commandments) taken from the Westminster Confession of Faith will be memorized throughout the Year.

Language: A Beka curriculum reviewing the parts of speech with emphasis on writing skills and vocabulary.

Spelling: ACSI Publishers- Weekly testing and focus on proper spelling through written work.

Harcourt Publishers- An in-depth look at the state of California; its history and California today.

Mrs. Heather Hager

Teacher

 

Teacher, Heather Hager has been part of the V.P.S. family since she was a child. She and her 3 siblings attended V.P.S. from Kindergarten through 6th grade. She began working at V.P.S. in 2008 as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional, and began co-teaching 2nd Grade alongside Erin Hedge-Ray in 2012. Heather graduated with honors from California State University, Northridge where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art/Photography. Before teaching at VPS, she taught Art and Creative Writing at Newhall Elementary School as part of an after-school enrichment program. She truly has a passion for teaching and seeing spiritual growth in her students. When she is not in the classroom, you can find her coaching the award-winning V.P.S. Power Squad or directing Camp Soar (V.P.S.’ summer camp).
